Call for submissions on archives and archiving practices in and on Palestine

This is a call for submissions to Archive Stories. We are interested in reflective pieces on different archives and archiving practices in and on Palestine. State and institutional archives in Palestine have been and continue to be targeted and destroyed as part of a long process of violent settler-colonialism and apartheid. This speaks to the urgency of a continued commitment to archiving the many dimensions of Palestinian life.

As Archive Stories is a website about how to work with creative and non-traditional archives, we have a broader conception of the meaning of the archive that captures the many ways in which the past and the present are recorded and remembered, ranging from recipes to art to oral history – and beyond.

We invite you to send pitches of 200 words detailing the piece you would like to write by January 15th 2024 to s.salem3@lse.ac.uk and m.taha2@lse.ac.uk

We accept pitches in any format, including written or in audio format (e.g. a voicenote), and in English or Arabic. If you have any accessibility requests related to submitting a pitch, please do get in touch with us. We are also happy to work with authors needing support on their final piece once their pitch has been accepted.

We aim to respond by the end of January, and we offer a small honorarium for accepted pieces. The final submission will be between 1000 and 2000 words. If you prefer to write a shorter piece, you could include visuals, videos, and sound pieces.
